This project was a challenge to research a ritual or object that had become redundant and find a way to revive it.

It worked on the principles of motivation and emotional design as well as an understanding of marketing strategies.

Baking Memories

Concept

What happened to baking bread with your loved ones?

This forgotten ritual that many will remember from childhood is a sacred tradition that I aim to bring back by reminding people why they need it- to bring them closer to their loved ones and create lifelong memories which can be shared through generations.

This will be demonstrated in a short video.

Storyboard development.

Exploration of different shots/ views- use of overhead/pov.

Developing a script and storyboard simultaneously.

Working with the idea of past and present conversations through audio.

Shoot planning and scheduling.

Test shoots- the first scene will be done in one take so test shots were critical to make sure there were no mistakes on the day.

A video of the final outcome- ‘Baking Memories’.

Visual research on specific elements of the shoot. A homely, nostalgic feel.

This art direction informed the overall look and feel of the final shoot.

Art direction of final shoot as informed by visual research.

Three different scenes meant a lot of time spent on making the props look cohesive throughout each shot.

Outcome

With the help of lecturers and family members who I tempted to be my actors, I ended up with an emotionally driven, homely feeling short video.

I didn’t have any experience in video prior to this project. Throughout the project I learned skills such as Adobe Premier Pro, Adobe After Effects, video shooting, direction and editing
