This project was an interdisciplinary project done as a week long masterclass in Aalto University, Helsinki.

The task was to create a virtual environment that explored the concept of peace using only typographical elements.

I worked with graphic designers from Finland, Japan and Estonia.

Virtual Reality in Aalto

Concept

Peace is different to everyone.

We designed a virtual environment with four different sections that have varying visuals and audio that people can explore in order to find their own peace.

Planning out the typographical floor plan/path.

Typographical floor plan/path rendered in unity.

Working as part of a team to problem solve

Planning the audio and visual elements of each section.

Environments rendered in Unity.

Each typographical element is brought into Unity and constructed into the virtual environment.

Smaller assets such as animals and plants made out of typographical elements, implemented in the virtual environment.

A video of the final virtual environment project recorded through a VR headset.

My international, interdisciplinary team!

Outcome

Using all of our combined skills, we ended up with a virtual environment for people to explore in order to find their own peace. A magical forest, nuclear warning monument, peaceful meadow and a winter forest. This resulted in an impressive virtual world that the user can walk around.

I worked in an interdisciplinary group with people from three different countries. This was an intensive teamwork exercise in which we had to navigate language barriers and cultural differences and use our combined skills to make something we could be proud of.
